Keeping it simple
Keeping up the conversation about tech tools of the trade I thought that we had been doing a good job at our company with communications. We’ve been using our CRM
to track sales, Google apps to share calendars and Pivotal Tracker for our agile development. However, a few weeks ago one of my team members came to me with a problem. She works in the marketing group and told me she had no clarity about road maps for new features and product releases. It struck me that we had a serious disconnect between our tech team and our sales and marketing teams. The irony is that our team as a whole is a tight knit group who talk about ideas and strategies all the time. To solve this issue we made a few simple non techy changes. Firstly, we had our developers write down big picture projects on a white board with major milestones and deadlines. We also implemented a 10 min, twice a week group huddle to hear from the developer team about progress and to give feedback. While I recognize this will not work with a large company I feel it a new critical part of Late Nite Labs. As we continue to refine our skills and learn tricks of the trade I look forward to sharing our experiences and would love to hear from other folks out there.
